Coastal Cowgirl
I would describe this style as an effortless, romantic, prairie style that combines a Free People, DOEN, LoveShack Fancy look mixed with Montana style. This summer will be about throwing on a dress that looks like its from your grandmother’s closet and pairing it with boots. It is a dreamy trend that makes you want to live on a farm in the middle of nowhere. If you were ever afraid to wear head-to-toe floral or all white, now is the time to rock it. This look has been recycled with many designers throughout the years like Isabel Marant in 2020, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini in 2016, The Great in Spring 2020, and other designers like Ralph Lauren Spring 2011 and even Spring 2023. All trends repeat themselves eventually!
Sheer Everything
I have enjoyed watching this trend evolve. Last summer, I saw it in European fashion and slowly make its way over to the US. Honestly, I started to notice a resurgence in Kate Moss’s style, and she was known for that iconic sheer dress, and I feel as if, that was a big factor in this trend remerging. It also dominated the runway for S/S 23. Sheer has taken many different forms, so there is a version of sheer for anyone. Whether it be a sheer skirt to wear over a jeans, a sheer blouse to pair with some masculine trousers, or a romantic sheer dress with lace detailing, there is something sheer for everyone!
Indie Sleaze Reborn
Grunge/ Indie has been popular for a while, but it is starting to evolve backwards to look similar to the indie sleaze style from 2000s and 2010s. Once again, another style Kate Moss was infamous for, especially during her Glastonbury days. It was messy, unhinged, and looked a bit like “the morning after”.
Mirror Palais Vibes
I call this the earth angel look. It’s ethereal and fairy like and looks straight out of villa in Tuscany or somewhere in Italy with romantic, gold jewelry. I started to fall in love with the brand Mirror Palais last summer, and noticed it got more and more traction. This S/S 23, I think it will pop off even more. It gives off the light femme energy and goes along with the broader trend of romanticizing literally everything in life.
Cowgirl but Make it City
Anything and everything western has been trending for a few years now thanks to the show, Yellowstone. However this trend is not traditional western and is a little different from the Coastal Cowgirl look. It takes western and makes it street style.
Maxi Length
I do think that mini skirts and dresses will still be relevant in S/S 23. However, we will definitely see more of maxi length skirts and dresses. Long, denim skirts will dominate the season, and I believe we will seen them everywhere.
Balletcore
Balletcore items like ballerina flats, leg warmers, onesies, and bodysuits plus many others will continue to be popular in 2023. We all have adopted the layering, simplicity, and effortlessness of the dancer style. The essential ballet core outfit of this past winter was a onesie paired with leg warmers, the platform tasman UGG slippers, a trench coat paired with a yankees ball cap. In the spring and summer, we are trading the uggs for new balance sneakers, the leg warmers for white crew socks, and the onesie for boxer shorts paired with a plain white tank, and the hat for a thick headband.
Back to Basics
We all have those classic closet staples that we love to wear like that one white tank, blazer, little black dress, or favorite pair of denim. This season it’s going to be all about simplicity especially in the warmer months. Basics have always and will always be relevant, but in the recent years it has become more of a popular aesthetic due to the “that girl” trend and European influencers like Matilda Djerf. I have always loved Swedish fashion and for many years saw it heavily influencing the upcoming trends for the US.
No Pants
Some of my personal style icons, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, have been partaking in this no pants trend. This trend is definitely not widely adopted yet, but I definitely think it will blow up pretty soon in many different ways. I already have a pack of white boxers saved in my Amazon cart ready for the warmer weather. Below are some of the ways I will be wearing the no pants trend!
